Digidentity now offers extra assurance for eHerkenning 2+ through biometric identity verification. This step is not mandatory according to the Agreement Framework for Electronic Access Services (Afsprakenstelsel Elektronische Toegangsdiensten), but it ensures a higher level of security by offering additional certainty about the identity of the eHerkenning applicant. For other eHerkenning levels, biometric verification was already a standard part of the registration process.
The application for eHerkenning through Digidentity is completely online and remote for all levels. You can also perform the biometric check wherever and whenever you want. Digidentity is the only party that can issue all eHerkenning levels remotely. A physical identification is no longer necessary.
