How we have shaped the world of digital identity:
Digidentity’s first project was the development of the Netherlands' first digital citizen portal, known as DigiD. Due to its success, we were subsequently awarded the opportunity to create a similar portal for the United Kingdom, called Gov.uk Verify. Today, it is hard to imagine that both nations would function without these essential portals. Although Digidentity has since transferred the maintenance of these portals, their continued usage is a testament to our success.
Digidentity is one of the founding architects of the first business identity framework in the Netherlands, known as eHerkenning. Thanks to the successful design of this scheme, in collaboration with the Netherlands Chamber of Commerce (KVK), eHerkenning has become a significant success. As one of the pioneering business identity schemes, eHerkenning is now regarded as a model for other nations and is recognised in the context of eIDAS.
With Digidentity’s signing solution being ahead of its time, it has laid the foundations for the standards embraced by the Cloud Signature Consortium (CSC). The CSC is a global coalition of companies, government agencies, and academic organizations dedicated to the standardization of securely authenticated digital signatures in the cloud. By promoting these standards, the CSC facilitates interoperability among various solutions, streamlines compliance with e-signature regulations, and paves the way for the widespread adoption of cloud-based digital signatures around the world.
At Digidentity, we are proud to be the exclusive trust centre for the SERMI (Secure Electronic Remote Management Infrastructure) scheme in Europe. This scheme enables secure accreditation and access to Security-related Repair and Maintenance Information (RMI) for vehicles, empowering independent operators and remote service suppliers. SERMI sets a new standard for security and interoperability, significantly advancing the integration of digital identity solutions in the automotive sector.
Digidentity is certified to onboard individuals remotely at the highest level of eIDAS . This means users can experience our seamless identification process without the need for manual verification. As one of the first companies to receive this certification, we are able to issue certificates and create persistent identities under eIDAS high standards, almost anywhere and at any time, in just minutes.
Digidentity has been actively involved in the development of Identity Wallets since the early conceptual stages. As a key member of both the European Wallet Consortium (EWC) and WeBuild, we are at the forefront of bringing the identity wallet to life.

Use case: City of Rotterdam
Digidentity, working with the IAM team at the City of Rotterdam and IAM provider Anoigo, has developed a decentralised identity wallet aligned with the Architecture Reference Framework (ARF) for the European Digital Identity (EUDI) Wallet. Our wallet supports secure, remote identity verification of both natural persons (at the eIDAS High level) and legal persons. Using the Rotterdam Company Wallet, Digidentity verifies the identities of foreign transport companies seeking access to Rotterdam’s Low Emission Zones (LEZs), as well as their staff—such as truck drivers—who require operational access. This solution enhances data integrity and regulatory compliance, helping the City of Rotterdam enforce environmental standards, reduce emissions, and manage traffic congestion. Our project will support the WE BUILD consortium’s mission to develop interoperable, production-ready wallets for businesses across the EU, especially within the supply chain and mobility sectors
